Cheer Up Champ started as a two-piece side project for Hamish (guitar/Vocals) and Cesar (drums/Backup Vocals) while both were playing in Heaps Keen. After Heaps Keen fizzled out in 2017 Cheer Up Champ began playing locally in Vancouver and recording their debut EP "Lost Everything, Won Nothing". After recording the tracks for the EP, Cheer Up Champ were performing live as a two piece of guitar and drums. At one of these shows they met the guitarists of other local band Oh So Pleasant, both were immediately interested in helping fill out Cheer Up Champ's sound. Kappel (bass/backup vocals) started rehearsing with the band first, with Conner (guitar) joining in soon after. With this 4 piece lineup in place they would perform songs from the first EP as well as new material written by the full band. This material would become the Cheer Up Champ side of the "Cheer Up, Get Happy" Split EP in 2019 with fellow Vancouver band Get Happy. In the summer of 2019 Conner would amicably split with the band and Cheer Up Champ would continue on performing and writing as a three piece. Cheer Up Champ would stay a three piece through 2019, auditioning the odd person through craigslist ads. In early 2020 Ryan (guitar) would answer a craigslist ad, audition, then become the new fourth member. The band would immediately commence writing new material with all members, working on new songs throughout the year that would be recorded from October to early 2021.
