Within a year, he had started piano lessons which continued until he was about 17 contsanlty driving his family nuts with Debussy, Bach & Chopin classics as well as being a fan of progressive rock players like Keith Emerson, Tony Banks & Dave Greenslade. It was around this time that he became exposed, through his older brother, to Jazz Fusion and became a big fan of Miles Davis, John McLaughlin and Joe Zawinul. Cal also dabbled with guitar & bass, rather unsuccessfully at the age of 15 before getting the performing bug and quickly started up ‘Lee K Tapp and The Washers’ with guitarist George Paterson.
