Boyfriend/Girlfriend were an epic pop guitar, bass and drum three-piece that threw in toy beats and boy/girl shouts to keep themselves entertained. They attempted to make personalised music that eschewed typical topics, sounds and song formats. Referencing Mogwai, Ben Folds Five, Shellac, Yo La Tengo and Pat Nevin, and singing in their home-grown accents, they created a brand of epic, earnest rock that rarely resorted to power chords.
