Now trading as Boo Hooray after their escapades as Electric Music AKA, Scottish duo Tom Doyle and Anth Brown – finally – return with their third long player, Haunted, on January 25 2010, released on their 69 Bluebird imprint. Three short years in the making, its 10 tracks were recorded in London and Scotland and clock in at 35 minutes. Made under the influence of Talk Talk, The Blue Nile, Elbow and The Zombies, its mid-tempo songs are high on atmosphere and melody. Haunted is released 10 years after the pair’s critically-acclaimed debut for the Beastie Boys’ now defunct label Grand Royal, North London Spiritualist Church, in 2000. Electric Music were temporarily derailed when the label went under only months after the album’s release and they were simultaneously turfed out of their North London studio Scabby Rd due to unpaid rent and stolen electricity. Compounding their problems, the duo were then threatened with legal action by Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk, whose electro-pop offshoot shared their name. Undeterred, Doyle and Brown suffixed their name with AKA and signed to Sanctuary in 2003 to release The Resurrection Show, which met with similar acclaim. Its memorable cover depicted the pair photographed inside the decaying Victorian grandeur of the Great Hall in London’s Alexandra Palace.
