Bernd Richard Deutsch, born 1977, studied composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Erich Urbanner from 1995-2001. He attended various master classes, for example at the “7. Internationalen Akademie für Neue Komposition und Audio Art” in Schwaz/Tyrol of Boguslaw Schaeffer and at the International Bartók Seminar Szombathely of Manuel Hidalgo. Bernd Richard Deutsch received numerous awards and scholarships like the Ernst Krenek-Preis der Stadt Wien in 2002, the Austrian state scholarship for composition in 2010, the Würdigungspreis des Landes Niederösterreich in 2011 as well as the 2nd prize at the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award (Juror: Salvatore Sciarrino), the Erste Bank composition prize 2013, the Paul Hindemith-Preis 2014, the Prize of the City of Vienna for Music 2015 and the Paul Lowin-Prize 2015. His compositions were played at prestigious festivals like Wien Modern, Klangspuren Schwaz, Eclat Festival Stuttgart, Grafenegg Festival, Biennale Neue Musik Hannover Bregenzer Festspiele and Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. The composer regularely works with internationally acclaimed ensembles and orchestras such as Klangforum Wien, Arditti Quartet, Aleph Gitarrenquartett, Vokalensemble Stuttgart, Mozarteum-Orchester Salzburg, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, ORF Radio-Sinfonieorchester Wien and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
