Benjamin Schaefer - piano Robert Landfermann - bass Marcus Rieck - drums The "Benjamin Schaefer Trio" is based in Cologne, Germany. Their music - which exclusively consists of original compositions - can be placed in the modern jazz idiom, influenced by both the jazz tradition and European classical music. Even in harmonically dense and rhythmically complex parts, the trio always contains a strong sense for melodic beauty and magical ambiences. All three musicians are equal partners in the musical development, interacting and improvising on a very high level. A great deal of musical knowledge and subtlety is paired with vitality and the sheer joy of playing. The result is a fascinating musical experience for experts and laymen alike. The trio's first CD "Shapes & Colours" (2004) was widely recognized as an "astonishingly mature debut". Their second CD "Roots and Wings" will be released in February 2008 on the renowned ENJA label. Benjamin Schaefer (*1981) received classical piano lessons for many years before switching to jazz in 1998. Workshops have since brought him together with such acclaimed musicians as pianists Jacques Loussier and Chick Corea, trombonist Nils Wogram and drummer John Hollenbeck. From 2001 to present, Benjamin has studied jazz piano and composition in Cologne with Hans Lüdemann, John Taylor and Joachim Ullrich.
