Beans & Fatback is a rock 'n soul band from Amsterdam, formed in 2010 when Onno Smit (singer and guitar player in Lefties Soul Connection) decided to combine two of his passions: music and cooking. During a couple of live sessions he recorded what would become Beans & Fatback (2010), a country-tinged rock 'n soul album and cookbook at the same time. In return for their musical contributions Smit cooked the musicians dinner during each session. Beans & Fatback became a proper band with a revolving roster, but with Onno Smit and Paul Willemsen as its core members. They released two more studio albums: With Skin Attached (2013) and Heroine Lovestruck (2015), plus a live album (2011's Beans & Fatback Live) before quietly disappearing, kind of going on hiatus after 2015 (although there was a stand-alone single in 2018, a cover version of Shocking Blue's legendary 'Venus'). The band made a surprise comeback in September 2024. The single 'Black and Blue' coincided with the announcement of Beans & Fatback's first album in nearly ten years, Hold Fast, set for a January 2025 release.
