Artist
Bartolomeo Carteri (Verona, 1542? - Verona, April 27, 1614) was an Italian composer active between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century. Musician by profession (composer, cantor, cornetto player, lute and viola da gamba) he entered the Verona Philharmonic Academy on December 31, 1564, remaining an aggregate for his entire life. Little is known about his life except what is obtained from an alleged portrait of him painted by Felice Brusasorzi around 1580 , but the date of him is highly uncertain, preserved in the Civic Museum located in the Castelvecchio in Verona . According to the reading given by Materassi, in the picture a musical book is visible in which the soprano part of the madrigal is reported Dear and gentle plant, which appears in his name in the manuscript of around 1580, drawn up by the Philharmonic Academy in honor of the Mantuan singer Laura Peverara (VEaf, Fondo musica antico , b. 220).
