Artist
Augusta Gross is a contemporary American composer. As a composer, Augusta draws on her own inner listening capacities and inclination for reflection, to communicate mood and meaning. Her music often displays a limpid style, seeking a distinctive musical language of clarity and incisiveness. While frequently contemplative in nature, her works show a range of moods and style, and incorporate a surprising array of subtle rhythmic and harmonic shifts. Augusta began her music studies at the piano at an early age and continued into early adulthood. Augusta traces her longstanding interest in music and development of her abilities to her deep curiosity about the nature of communicating emotional meaning through nonverbal means. She considers the piano a marvelous interpreter of emotional expression. While nurturing her longstanding interests in the arts, Augusta was, for many years, a practicing psychologist with a particular interest in understanding individuals with learning difficulties and its impact on self-esteem. Several of her articles appear currently on the WETA educational website LDOnline. The art of communication and its inherent power to connect is always central to Augusta’s various pursuits.
