Vanessa Lann (born april 6, 1968 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American composer, who currently lives in The Netherlands. Vanessa Lann studied composition and theory with Ruth Schonthal at the Westchester Conservatory of Music. In 1986 she continued her studies at Harvard, where her teachers were Earl Kim, Leon Kirchner and Peter Lieberson. She graduaded summa cum laude. In 1990 she received the John Knowles Paine Travelling Fellowship with which she could study composition with Theo Loevendie and electronics with Gilius van Bergeijk at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands, till 1993. From 1991 to 2002 Lann taught composition and theory at the British School in Voorschoten, The Netherlands. Since 2002 she teaches music history, mathematics, Eastern philosophy, world music and multimedia at the Webster University in Leiden, The Netherlands.
