April Ash’s founding members Amine and Charles knew each other as childhood friends, and formed a multitude of bands over the course of their schooling and university studies, but it wasn’t until they were joined Fadi (bass), Hadi (guitars), and vocalist Alaa that the band came together as a cohesive unit. They played their first gig in the less- than-prestigious Don Ilio pub, in Beirut’s Jal el Dib neighborhood, in 2001. Several other live shows followed, including an impressive concert at Beirut’s BIEL venue, and the band was eventually signed by La CD-thèque Productions in 2002 to record an album. ‘Home’ comes across as a faithful blend of the different musicians’ influences; from classic rock (Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin…) to recent Modern Rock strands (U2, Coldplay…). The band toured for a while after the release of the album then disbanded in 2003, on account of personal differences. A recent successful live appearance, however, has given the 5 musicians the impetus to reform and re-record in the near future.
