Apnea formed in the fall of 2008 during their sophomore year of high school. At this time, the lineup was Austin M on drums, Jason Quintal on guitar, and Joe Dobrowolski on bass. After a shift in the lineup, Joe moved to drums, and Austin to vocals. Emrys Lowe was asked to play bass for their first show in early 2009, at first as a temporary fill in, but wound up sticking around. That summer, Austin left the band, and Emyrs took up vocal duties in addition to playing bass. Their debut album, Nothing Yet, was finished being recorded and mixed June 22, 2011 - almost one year after all the material had been written. Nothing Yet showcases a wide variety of musical styles, with the band stating that they'd rather not be tied to a single genre.
