Antoine Barbe (Antwerp , about 1505 - died on 2 December 1564, another source reports about 1573 ?) was a singer and composer from the Burgundian Netherlands. Barbe was educated in Antwerp. He was Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Our Lady (Antwerp) from 1527 to 1562 , where he became a priest in 1548 . As a singing master he trained, among others, Georges de la Hèle . Barbes descendants also played a role in Antwerp musical life. His son Antoine Barbe (born before 1548 in Antwerp - died there on 10 February 1604 ) worked in his native city as an organist and composer. His grandson Antoine Barbe (born about 1578 in Antwerp - died there on 15 March 1626 ) was born in 1596 organist at the Antwerp Sint-Jacobskerk and was also a music teacher. His compositions include a Missa Vecy la danse de Barberie, which is based on a late 15th century chanson, and a number of motets and chansons. Among the surviving works of Barbe, the only well-known Dutch song " Och hoor ons bedit " deserves some attention. It is included in Tielman Susato's " Het ierste musijck boexken mit vier parts" , published in Antwerp in 1551 . It is a four-part farewell song of broke ghilden, who lament that they can no longer drink wine. The composition is characterized by a remarkably even musical rhythm.
