about

Adam Rener (also Adam of Liège) was a Franco-Flemish composer and singer of the Renaissance. There is no information on the early days of Adam Rener, especially about his youth. For the first time, he is mentioned in the list of six mutant chorknaben in the cantorei of King Maximilian I in Innsbruck in 1498, from which his approximate year of birth can be determined. In the year 1500 he went to Burgundy "ad studium". This document does not indicate that a university study was meant; Just as well Rener could have further developed his musical skills in the Burgundian Hofkapelle. This also indicates that he was designated as a composer after his return to the Habsburg court in 1503. In 1505, after the death of Adam Singer ( Adam of Fulda ), a competent musician was missing at the court of Friedrich the Wise in Torgau . From the year 1507, Rener took over the direction of the Hofkapelle, which developed into a major center of church music in the following years. The records on his activity in Torgau end in 1517. His name appears for the last time in the Hofarchiv of the city of Altenburg for the year 1520. Through the activity of Adam Rener, the Hofkapelle of Friedrich the Wise of Saxony (reign of government 1486-1525) reached an international level. Apart from the work of Heinrich Isaac , the advanced style of Franco-Flemish music soon reached Germany after 1500. Under his direction a comprehensive collection of liturgical chormusik (the Jena choir books) was created in Kurs
