1. Anthrax is an American heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. The band is regarded as one of the leading acts of the 1980s thrash metal scene and is part of the "Big Four" of the genre alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. They were among the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the East Coast of the United States. The current lineup consists of Scott Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Over the course of their career, the lineup has changed multiple times, with Ian remaining the only constant member. Ian and Benante are the only members to appear on all of Anthrax's albums, while Bello has been a member since 1984, replacing Lilker. Anthrax released their debut album "Fistful of Metal" in 1984 with singer Neil Turbin, who was replaced by Joey Belladonna later that year. Their third album "Among the Living" (1987) brought them wider recognition. Subsequent albums "State of Euphoria" (1988) and "Persistence of Time" (1990) solidified their status in thrash metal, with "Persistence of Time" earning the band their first Grammy nomination. In 1992, Anthrax signed with Elektra Records and replaced Belladonna with John Bush from Armored Saint. Bush's first album with the band, "Sound of White Noise" (1993), reached number seven on the Billboard 200 and featured the single "Only". Later albums under Bush received less commercial su
