Angelo Michele Bartolotti (died before 1682) was a guitarist, theorbist and composer active in Florence, Rome, Sweden and Paris in the mid- 17th century. He has published three books of his works. He was born in Bologna. It is assumed that the beginning of his career took place in Florence, probably in the service of Jacopo Salviati (1607-1672), Duke of Giuliano, to whom he dedicated his first guitar book. In the early 1650s, he was part of a group of Italian musicians who left to work at the court of Christina of Sweden , where documents attest to his employment in 1652 and 1654. Notably, he is cited as "Angelo Michele Bartoletti, teorbist", paid 125 thalers, in the court state for 1653 . These musicians were sometimes played in Uppsala , at the residence of Bulstrode Whitlocke, British Ambassador to Sweden. On such an occasion, theMarch 21, 1653, Bartolotti gave him a manuscript bearing the title: Musica del Signor Angelo Micheli uno de musici della Capella de Reyne di Swecia, Upsaliae Martii 21 1653 a 2 et 3 voce, and on a flyleaf Dal dono del Signor Angelo Michelle. This manuscript contains only anonymous pieces (attributable for some to Luigi Rossi, Antonio Cesti and Giacomo Carissimi); perhaps it belonged to Bartolotti before being given to the ambassador. After her abdication in 1654, Queen Christine left for Rome via Brussels and Innsbruck; it is assumed that Bartolotti followed her throughout this journey.
