Artist
Giovanni Battista Ferrini (Rome, circa 1601 to 1674) was an Italian composer, organist and harpsichordist. He was organist at the church of Saint-Louis-des-French Rome from 1619 as well as the main church of the Oratory in Rome, the Chiesa Nuova (Santa Maria in Valicella) from 1623 to 1653. He could be part of the entourage of Girolamo Frescobaldi . The twenty years that remained to him were busy traveling around Italy and occur in different churches (especially in Rome, for example, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore ), or participate in secular concerts music events. We do not know him any work of sacred music, and Ferrini seems to have been an accomplished harpsichordist, known as such by his colleagues under the nickname "Ferrini della Spinetta." His work was not published in his lifetime, nor in the years following his death but his music widely circulated in the form of manuscript copies.
