Andreas Fromm (* 1621 in Plänitz ; † October 16, 1683 in Strahov ) was a German educator, composer, Protestant and Catholic theologian. Born as the son of the Lutheran pastor von Plänitz Andreas Fromm and his wife Magarethe, the daughter of the Perleberg superintendent Daniel Michaelis, he lost his mother at an early age. Supported by his family, he studied Protestant theology in Frankfurt / Oder and Wittenberg , where he obtained his master's degree. After a short activity at the school in Altdamm , he became cantor at the Marienkirche and professor of music at the Marienstiftsgymnasium in Stettin in 1648 . In 1651 he entered after he had previously obtained the academic degree of a licentiate at the University of Rostockacquired the office of provost to St. Petri and consistorial councilor in the Brandenburg capital of Kölln . Also in 1651 he married. Here the Reformed Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg hoped in his attempt to end the polemics between the Reformed and the Lutheran theologians, on Fromm's Irish influence. This had previously approached the Reformed, in particular the court preacher Stosch . After the Berlin Religious Discussion in 1662/63 and the Verses of Tolerance , which the Lutheran clergy were forced to sign, he had doubts about the Elector's religious policy. He expressed this so massively in 1666 that the elector dismissed him from service. Fromm turned to Wittenberg in Electoral Saxony whose university was dominated by Abraham Calov and Orth
