Otto Siegfried Harnisch (* around 1568 in Reckershausen near Göttingen ; † August 1623 in Göttingen) was a German cantor , conductor and composer. Harnisch probably attended a Latin school in Göttingen. From 1585 he studied with interruptions until 1593 at the University of Helmstedt . While still a student in 1587, he published a secular German songbook here. He then worked from 1588 as cantor at the Cathedral of St. Blasius in Braunschweig . In 1591 he was a musician in the chapel of Count Simon VI zur Lippe in Rinteln . From June 13 , 1593 to early 1594 he was cantor at the particular school in Helmstedt and from 1594 to 1600 cantor at the Great School in Wolfenbüttel. From about 1597 he led the singing of the choirboys at the Castle Church. Here he worked under the direction of Hofkapellmeister Thomas Mancinus . From there he was appointed Kapellmeister to the court of Duke Philipp Sigismund von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel , whose court orchestra was based in Iburg Castle near Osnabrück. In 1603 the city council of Göttingen successfully recruited him. There he was appointed cantor of St. John's Church and the sixth figural cantor of the university-like Göttingen Pedagogy . In 1621 he moved to Celle as Kapellmeister. Harnisch's exact date of death is not known, the funeral took place on August 18, 1623. He probably died of the plague like the rest of his family.
