The quartet emerged in 2003 from what was once ‘The Andrea Keller Quintet’ (formed in 1999). When their bassist relocated to New York, they became a bass-less ensemble. The ensemble has performed at major Australian jazz festivals including the Wangaratta Jazz Festiva, and the Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival. In 2007 the Andrea Keller Quartet performed at the Moers Festival (Germany) and the Copenhagen Jazzhouse (Denmark). The focus of the Andrea Keller Quartet is on performing original contemporary improvised music. The bass-less line up of trumpet, tenor saxophone, piano and drums has led to a chamber music-like approach by the group to improvisations and compositions.
