Andrés de Torrentes (Berlanga de Duero, c. 1510 - Toledo, September 4, 1580) was a Spanish clergy-composer, organist and maestro de cappella. There are few known data on the origin of Andrés de Torrentes. It is known that it came from Berlanga de Duero, which already appears in the chapter acts and in his will. His date of birth is estimated from a mention of November 28, 1570, which refers to Torrentes as "a sixty-year-old man." The first safe news is from June 7, 1538, when the chapter acts note that Torrentes requests the position of singer in the musical chapel of the Cathedral of Toledo. The chapel teacher at the time, Francisco Maldonado, must have been sick or incapacitated, because in July of that same year Torrentes took care of the choir infants with a salary of 2,500 maravedís, usually the responsibility of the teacher. The fact indicates that it is possible that he was being prepared for him to become Maldonado's successor, but in August he returned to Berlanga de Duero, so it was thought that he would not return. However, he returned on November 9, returning to his previous responsibilities. After the death of Maldonado, Torrentes was named the chapel master of the Cathedral of Toledo on December 3, probably thanks to the intercession of Cardinal Juan Tavera.
