Alexander Tchaikovsky was born in Moscow February 19, 1946. He studied at the Music College of Moscow and from 1967 until 1975 at the Moscow Conservatory (piano-under Heinrich Neuhaus and Lev Naumov, composition-under Tikhon Khrennikov). Now he is a teacher in composition at the Moscow Conservatory. The style of his first works was neoclassic; his first works were piano pieces mainly. His Cello Concerto (1974) was the beginning of a neoromantic period. After this period he started to use new technics in composition. The basis of his works is traditional.
