Album
Soulfire is a South African based soft rock band which specialises in acoustic soft rock melodies, catchy choruses and lyrical brilliance. Comprised of the duo Duncan Breen and Dave Stark, with further input from Gavin Coetzee, Soulfire’s sound is one of quality and accessibility. Once I stuck this album in my CD player, I knew I was in for something special, and so were those around me. The Road Ahead is an album of soft protest, reconciliation and catharsis. Soothing acoustic melodies and deeply introspective vocals place the listener in musical heaven. While the sound maintains a strict acoustic feel, its uniqueness and well-balanced composition means that the listener is not bored for even a second. The truly brilliant vocals and quality of the music as a whole will lead you to question all the negative presumptions that you had about the South African music industry. In fact, I would go so far as to state that this is one of the best acoustic albums that has ever been produced on South African soil. The opening track, ‘Beautiful World’, is my favourite listen of the album. Great flow, awesome lyrics and excellent riffs really make me want to pick up my acoustic and jam along. While I maintain this feeling for most of what I’m hearing, the chorus of ‘Change The World’ is the only moment of the entire album that I dislike. The chorus flow and riffs remind me of Paris Hilton’s ‘Stars Are Blind’ (a musical moment that the world would rather forget). Once the chorus is out
