Formed around a campfire in the Cedarberg Mountains, Soulfire is a two-man acoustic band in the classic singer-songwriter tradition. Blending influences ranging from the older masters such as Neil Young , James Taylor and Paul Simon to the current wave of solo acts like Jack Johnson , Damien Rice and Jose Gonzalez , Soulfire creates a sound that is simple, honest and refreshing. Basing the songs around two guitars and vocals from both writers, Soulfire creates a rich warm atmosphere that is both intimate and uplifting. Dave Starke has been on the acoustic scene for some time with regular performances at Cape Town's Barleycorn Music Club and a 2004 appearance on the Levi's Original Music Tour . His song Wide River featured on the SAmp3.com website and he has shared the stage with a number of accomplished acts. He brings to the band an emotional honesty in reflecting on relationships as evident in songs such as Lisa Jean , Not Tonight , Beautiful and Would You Cry? Duncan Breen is a newcomer to the live scene having been away from South Africa for much of the last three years. His experiences of travelling through Africa and South America (always with his guitar) reflect in his songwriting, which developed from jamming with locals and fellow travellers in unusual locations such as the highest point of Peru's Inca Trail and on an island framed by shooting stars in the middle of Uganda's Lake Victoria .
