"Tattoo You" is the sixteenth UK and eighteenth US studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 24 August 1981 by Rolling Stones Records. The album is largely composed of studio outtakes recorded during the 1970s and includes one of the band's best-known songs, "Start Me Up," which reached number two on the US Billboard singles chart. Following the release of "Emotional Rescue" (1980), touring commitments and internal tensions among band members made arranging dedicated recording sessions difficult. As a result, the production team compiled unused recordings from previous sessions, some dating back nearly a decade. While a few tracks were used in their original form, most consisted of incomplete fragments that required additional studio work. Recording sessions took place throughout 1980 and 1981 as members became available to finish the tracks. The album credits include Mick Jagger (vocals), Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood (guitars), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums). Earlier recordings feature contributions from former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor ("Tops"), keyboardists Nicky Hopkins and Billy Preston, session guitarist Wayne Perkins ("Worried About You"), and founding member Ian Stewart. "Tattoo You" achieved both critical and commercial success, reaching number one on the US Billboard 200 and becoming the final Rolling Stones album to top the US charts, concluding a run of eight consecutive number-one albums dating back to "Sticky Fing
