"Silver Side Up" is the third studio album by the Canadian rock band Nickelback, released on September 11, 2001. The album features a style described by AllMusic as a continuation of the band's dark, high-energy rock sound from their first two albums. It achieved commercial success, reaching number one in Canada, Austria, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The album received multiple certifications, including 8× Platinum in Canada, 6× Platinum in the United States, and 3× Platinum in the United Kingdom. Nickelback supported the album with a worldwide tour, which included their first UK arena tour. After completing the tour, the band began working on their fourth studio album, "The Long Road." Prior to the release of "Silver Side Up," Nickelback had begun to achieve commercial success through their 1998 album "The State" and its lead single "Leader of Men." By early 2001, "The State" was certified Gold in Canada and had nearly reached the same certification in the United States. In March 2001, the band won their first Juno Award for Best New Group of the Year. In April 2001, Nickelback returned to the studio where "The State" had been recorded to begin work on "Silver Side Up." Several songs on the album, including "Hangnail" and "Hollywood," were written before the release of "The State" and had been performed live prior to the album’s release.
