Lunch is a fan-created mashup album. Being The Rutles' parallel to The Beatles' Love, it was ostensibly created as a soundtrack for the non-existent "Circle of Hay" (Cirque du Soleil) show, melding together material from The Rutles' released recordings to create a cohesive soundscape. Fittingly, there are several parallels to track combinations heard on Love, such as the melding of three "pre-studio era" songs, and the joining of "Joe Public" to "Nevertheless" ("Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows").
