on their sophomore album, sam therapy pursue their desire to feel something, nothing, anything. they feel like they deserve to be hurt. the only sane reaction to this: to provoke a war between a small array of cheap analog synthesizers and their body. the resulting soundscapes are more dense and layered, visceral, and out-of-control than on their digitally produced debut. I DESERVE TO BE HURT is inspired by yearning to express the malaise of inhabiting a body (touching on themes like sex, sickness, physical and mental pain, as well as body dysphoria) making use of the harsh vocabulary of power electronics. sam therapy's key influences include noise artists like himukalt, pharmakon, and lana del rabies, j. g. ballard's crash, and obscure vampire films.
