"Howling At The Sun" was recorded during the winter and spring of 2005-2006. Most of the parts are performed by Robert, with help from friends on 4 songs - 'The Heart Of An Astronaut', bass by Owen Davies (A Northern Chorus, Bellewoods); 'Funerals And Forgotten Promises' and 'Pavement Rumble', backing vocals by Jacqueline Rendell; and 'This Morning', piano and organ by Ben Harrison (Peter Katz, Dynamo and Badnutbeats). The record has a somewhat downtempo feel due to relationship issues Robert was experiencing at the time, culminating in divorce in October of 2006. While initially painful, this became a turning point and he decided to name the album "Howling At The Sun" to characterize his new found sense of freedom. The artwork was done by Calvin Grandison, who was found via a Craigslist ad seeking bands in need of cover art. Calvin was living in Alberta at the time, and all the collaborative formatting of the design was done by email. The album was mastered to tape by Andy Krehm at Silverbirch in Toronto, in September of 2006. The record was unofficially released on Blackbox Records in June of 2007.
