A never-ending work in progress, continually growing, Highwayman is a foray into the dark depths of the Eighteenth Century underworld. A series of symphonic poems charts the progress of the villainous antihero known to many simply as the Highwayman, as he seeks redemption for a life of crime and flagrant immorality. The tone is ominous and, according to the composer, inspirations include great film composers, such as Danny Elfman, John Williams and Hans Zimmer, as well as a few older favourites including Modest Mussorgsky and Antonio Vivaldi. This album is a companion to an epic work of written fiction of the same name being written by the composer quite steadily, but slowly. It is due for completion in 2011.
