Graduation is the third studio album by American rapper Kanye West, released on September 11th, 2007, by Def Jam Recordings and Roc-A-Fella Records. The album marked a turning point in West's career, as he moved away from the soul-sample-heavy production of his earlier work and embraced a more electronic, stadium-ready sound inspired by house music, indie rock, and the aesthetics of arena tours. Recording sessions for Graduation took place between 2005 and 2007 at various studios in New York City and Los Angeles. West took full control over the production direction, crafting a more futuristic, synth-heavy sound, while also collaborating with producers such as DJ Toomp, Mike Dean, and Nottz.
