"Era 1" is a term often used to describe a slew of 11 singles released by German singer-songwriter Kim Petras throughout 2017 and early-2019. Originally believed to be apart of her debut studio album, the tracks have not been included in one formal body of work, with no plans being announced to do so. Petras formally announced the end of "Era 1" on February 6, 2019. In August of 2017, Petras released her debut single, "I Don't Want It At All", the first song from the collection. The track was released independently and was a moderate commercial successful, going viral on Spotify. Following this, Petras released a slew of singles including "Hills", "Slow It Down", and "Hillside Boys" before striking further solo success with "Heart To Break" (2018), which would become her second entry on a Billboard chart. Petras then embarked on Troye Sivan's Bloom Tour as a supporting act and released a novelty EP for Halloween titled Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1, all while continuing to release singles throughout the end of 2018 in to early-2019. The later releases included more collaborations than previously, with Petras releasing tracks with Cheat Codes, SOPHIE, Baby E., and Lil Aaron.
