"Confessions on a Dance Floor" is the tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna. It was released on November 9, 2005, by Warner Bros. Records. The album marked a stylistic shift from her previous studio release, "American Life" (2003), and incorporates influences from 1970s disco, 1980s electropop, and contemporary club music. Madonna initially began recording the album with Mirwais Ahmadzaï but later changed creative direction and continued the project with Stuart Price, who had been working with her on the documentary "I'm Going to Tell You a Secret". The album was primarily recorded at Price’s home studio. Musically, "Confessions on a Dance Floor" is structured as a continuous DJ-style mix, with songs sequenced and blended without pauses between tracks. The album’s title reflects its thematic progression, beginning with lighter and more upbeat material and gradually exploring more introspective themes. Several songs incorporate samples and musical references to artists associated with dance music, including ABBA, Donna Summer, Pet Shop Boys, the Bee Gees, and Depeche Mode, as well as elements reminiscent of Madonna’s own 1980s work.
