Chlorine is the debut album from Missouri-based rapper-producer Oliver Francis. Its release was supported by two singles: “New Year’s Day” and “Good Life Freestyle.” The project is notably a huge leap in style for Oliver, with him choosing to avoid any references to hard drugs or violence, and rapping in his natural voice, releasing his most mature, melodic, and upbeat-sounding body of work up to that point. Oliver’s different approach for the album can be attributed to him developing a distaste for his older music, as he’d started becoming extremely self-conscious about the authenticity of the subject matter in those tracks, being a “white kid from Missouri,” which he explained in a series of now-deleted tweets and in a 2018 interview with Masked Gorilla. Oliver released the project on April 6, 2017 through his Bandcamp page, a day before its release on major streaming services.
