The debut album by Broken Down Lorry was never intended as such. Containing a collection of songs written largely in the last dregs of Johny Nocash's previous band 'Echolalia', the songs were recorded on an analogue 4-track machine and converted digitally by a computer. Some tracks demonstrate Nocash's experimentation with samples and loops, including opening track 'Shoplifting'. The aftermath of Echolalia saw Johny Nocash take pleasure from musical reclusion, but promising feedback from the demoing of songs via a forum for Liverpool band The La's, and the inclusion of a cover version by Broken Down Lorry on a Trash Can Sinatras tribute CD persuaded Nocash to give his songs a public airing. The track 'A Friend In Elvis' was re-recorded as a single with guest vocals from Enid Crowshott.
