BRAT is the sixth studio album by Charli xcx, released on June 7, 2024, via Atlantic Records. It features an aggressive and confrontational style, yet is noted for its lyrical vulnerability. Inspired by the illegal London rave scene where Charli began her career, the album is her first release after renewing her label contract in 2023. BRAT includes elements of EDM, hyperpop, and dance to create a unique minimalism that is both loud and bold. Critics have compared its sound to early 2000s Ministry of Sound compilations, describing the lyrics as both ‘shady and bratty’ yet ‘tender and heartbreaking.’ The album explores various themes, including Charli’s contentious relationship with a fellow female artist and society's fascination with ‘mean girls.’ Additionally, one track delves into her grief over the death of SOPHIE, adding a deeply personal layer to the record.
