blonde on blue was released at Kaos Cafe n Jazz Bar, at the time one of Canada's top niteclubs. at that exciting event, chanan was accompanied by calgary's top jazz sidemen and recording artists of their own: john dewaal (who had accompanied rosemary clooney), calgary's master jazz drummer of precision, john hyde who had a similar reputation on bass, and loni moger, graduate of berklee school of music's jazz program. but the recording itself was made by chanan in his own living room on a br 88, and where he played on all the instruments, a one man creation. he was unsigned, so it seemed the best way to go..."the songs came to me back in 2002 just after a special california journey, so both the trip and they were really one essential inspiration." like fellow canadian artists joni mitchell and neil young, the music is correctly discerned as an alberta-california hybrid and fans of both mitchell and young are likely to enjoy this album as well.
