Balacobaco is the twentieth studio album by Brazilian singer Rita Lee, released in 2003. It features twelve original tracks and follows Aqui, Ali, em Qualquer Lugar, which consisted solely of covers of Beatles classics. The album was produced by names like Roberto de Carvalho and DJ Memê, and it gained traction on Brazilian radio with the hit single "Amor e Sexo". Critics described Balacobaco as "Rita Lee's best album in the last ten years," and it quickly became another success in the singer's career. Within just over a month of its release, Balacobaco achieved Gold Record status. To promote the successful new album, Rita Lee embarked on a tour, kicking off in Rio de Janeiro in January 2004 to great public and critical acclaim. Filling the Canecão venue in Rio for multiple nights and adding extra performances, the tour continued to various Brazilian and international cities, including Lima, Peru; Asunción, Paraguay; Porto and Lisbon, Portugal; and New York and Boston, USA. The tour's concert was recorded for a DVD and CD released the following year as part of the MTV ao Vivo series. The show, filmed in São Paulo, featured guest appearances by Pitty and Zélia Duncan. Balacobaco sold over 300,000 copies by March 2004 and surpassed 550,000 copies in physical and digital sales, making it one of Lee's greatest successes.
