Album
April is the third studio album by American indie folk act Sun Kil Moon, released on April 1, 2008, through Caldo Verde Records. The album was recorded between March and August of 2007 at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco, California and Well Recording in Seattle, Washington. It was produced by Mark Kozelek, who is the primary songwriter and frontman of the project. The album features guest appearances from notable artists including Will Oldham (also known as Bonnie "Prince" Billy) and Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie. It includes a total of 11 tracks, with an additional bonus disc containing alternate versions and outtakes available in select editions. April is notable for its extended song lengths and introspective songwriting, marking a return to original material following the 2005 Modest Mouse covers album Tiny Cities. The song “Heron Blue” gained particular attention after being featured in the trailer for the video game Gears of War 3. The album received positive critical reception and debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #127. It is often cited as one of Sun Kil Moon’s most accomplished works, further cementing Kozelek’s place as a master of confessional songwriting.
