Embracing life as it unfolds isn’t always an easy feat, yet singer/songwriter Aline Vida does it so effortlessly in song. Her timeless vocals fit alongside contemporaries such as Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, and Jessie Ware. After a three-year break, Vida returns with a hypnotic 5-song stunner entitled Alive. This EP, her long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s And Now, was written and recorded with Vida’s longtime collaborator, drummer Warren Grant, in his Metronome Studios in Middle Village, NY. Here, she delves into a rich palate of R&B, electronic and soul for her most sonically ambitious effort to date. “Warren studied song writing at Berkley in Boston,” Vida says. “He brings structure to our writing and production process, and he is a positive force to make sure that we always finish.” The luminous electronic soundscape of “Alive” soars with a promising message of perserverance. The acoustic guitar-tinges of “Storm” sees one weathering the toughest of times, but with a hopeful look forward. The sultry grooves of “We Fall Away” is a true showstopper, and one that Vida admits “is more about what I wish love would be like in real life.” One cannot help but be captivated by Vida’s delivery here. The piano-laden “Heaven” and “Let’s Live Today” will take you there, too.
