Zoe Jane is a song Aaron Lewis wrote as a tribute to his daughter, Zoe Jane Lewis, who was born the day Layne Staley, former lead singer of Alice in Chains, passed away, April 5, 2002 (and also, coincidentally, 8 years to the day Kurt Cobain, former lead singer of Nirvana, passed away). It speaks to the idea of being on the road constantly, missing the early years of Zoeβs life, and how this made him feel.
