Written as a tribute to Armstrong’s wife Adrienne, “Youngblood” is a power-pop anthem to the brighter side of love. Still, this love song manages to work in some very punk rock lyrics. Like most of the other Green Day songs dedicated Adrienne, the track sounds much more upbeat and positive than the majority of work in the band’s catalog. Via NME, the song was originally written years prior as “Young Blood”. Years later, it was given a facelift and new lyrics for Revolution Radio.
