The rhythms and songs (toques y cantos) played by Iluyenkori are from Cuba. Iluyenkori performed Afro-Cuban liturgical music for Lucumi (Santeria, or Regla de Ocha) ceremonies. This music is played on a set of three bata (drums), and usually accompanied by an akpwon (lead singer) and chorus, who sing to the deities, or orishas, so that they will come down and "mount" the devotees. This particular song is played for Yemaya, the mother of oceans and ocean life.
