Prefab Sprout formed in Newcastle and released their debut album ‘Swoon’ in 1984, one year after I was born, on the Kitchenware Records label. 21 years later I released my first album ‘Clocktower Park’ through Kitchenware Records. ‘When Love Breaks Down’ was the first Prefab Spout song I ever heard. It was on a ‘Best Of’ compilation given to me by my then manager Keith Armstrong, and I loved it from the very first listen. Paddy McAloon, the songwriter, has an amazing way with words and this song is no exception.
