“War Sucks” is the eponymous anti-war song helmed by the Red Crayola in 1967. It was said that producer Lelan Rogers suggested to drummer Rick Barthelme that he should take upon a more “tribal” beat as to fit in with the track’s militant tone and jungle-like nature. The track foreshadows the Crayola’s more politically inclined lyrical side as well as Mayo Thompson’s passionate, unhinged and aggressive vocal lines. Here Thompson shouts out his sentiments against the Vietnam war as well as war in general.
