Victoria Gardens was originally slated to be the second single from Madness' 1984 album Keep Moving, to the extent of being remixed. However, the band's label decided that two singles in a row without Suggs as lead singer would be too much, and One Better Day was released instead, in June 1984 -- the photo on the single sleeve had been taken with Victoria Gardens in mind. The remixed version of the song eventually saw the light of day in the 1986 compilation Utter Madness.
