"Universal Soldier" is a song written and recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie that features on her debut album "It's My Way!" in 1964. By 1965, the song had caught the attention of budding British folk singer Donovan who recorded it using a similar arrangement to Buffy Sainte-Marie's original recording. Released as a track on an EP, Donovan's version reached #5 on the UK charts. In the USA, Donovan's version was released as a single and reached #53 on the US Billboard chart.
