"Try" was released as the debut single by Australian dream pop artist Hatchie on May 4, 2017. It later appeared on her debut EP, Sugar & Spice, in 2018. The song was written in 2015 and recorded the following year. On May 3, 2017, Hatchie uploaded the song to Triple J Unearthed, where it reached top 5, gaining her attention and encouraging her to put together a band for her project.
