This song was written as a message to the country music community. New blood, ideas, and styles are a good thing, and a necessity for any genre of music to progress. However, this song addresses the fact that country (or any genre for that matter) needs to stay true to its roots in order to be called 'country'. It was written at a time when a lot of non-country artist were trying to crossover with songs and music that really had no business being called 'country'.
