"The Race Is On" is a song written by Don Rollins and made a hit on the country music charts by George Jones and on the pop and easy listening charts by the unrelated Jack Jones. One of Bob Weir's country songs, The Race Is On was performed over 50 times by the Grateful Dead between 1969 and 1995. The majority of these performances were in 1973 and 1980. This style of country music by the Grateful Dead was very influential on Ween. Especially their country album 12 Golden Country Greats.
